Most green images you find through a search engine are the wrong tool for the job. They arrive at some arbitrary resolution, they have been re-saved as JPEGs enough times to have a soft halo at the edges, and the green is often close to but not exactly the chroma-key primary. For a wallpaper none of that matters. For anything that touches a keyer, all of it does. This page generates the file fresh, at the size you ask for, in the colour a keyer expects.

What a green screen image actually contains

One value, repeated. Every pixel is #00FF00 — RGB 0, 255, 0 — with no border, no gradient, no logo, no watermark, and no texture. The file is created by filling an HTML canvas with a single colour and exporting it, which is why a 4K PNG of it compresses down to a few kilobytes despite covering more than eight million pixels: there is nothing in it to describe.

That flatness is the entire point. A chroma keyer decides what to make transparent by measuring how far each pixel sits from a target hue. Variation in the source — compression noise, a subtle gradient, a slightly different green in one corner — widens the range the keyer has to accept, and a wider range starts eating into the subject. A mathematically uniform green gives the tightest possible key.

Which size to download

Match the destination rather than picking the largest option by reflex. HD 1920 × 1080 drops straight into most video timelines and covers the majority of laptop and desktop wallpapers. 4K 3840 × 2160 is worth it when you will scale, crop, or pan across the image, or when it is going on a large or high-density display. Mobile 1080 × 1920 is the portrait size for phone wallpapers and vertical video. Square 2048 × 2048 suits design tools and social layouts that expect equal sides.

Because the image is a solid colour, upscaling it does no damage at all — there is no detail to soften. If you are unsure, HD is almost always enough, and the file size difference is negligible either way.

PNG, JPG, or WebP

PNG is the right default. It is lossless, so every pixel in the saved file is exactly the value that was drawn, and a flat colour is the best possible case for PNG's compression — the file stays tiny. Use it for anything that will be keyed, composited, or edited further.

WebP produces an even smaller file at high quality and is well supported across current browsers and editors. Choose it when you are shipping the image to the web and you know the receiving software handles the format.

JPG exists here for convenience, and it is fine as a wallpaper or a quick reference. It is the weakest choice for key source material: JPEG works by discarding colour information, and although a single flat field survives that well, the encoder still introduces slight variation. If the file is only ever going to be looked at, it makes no practical difference.

When to use the file instead of the live screen

Download a file when something other than a browser needs to hold the green: an editing timeline, a design document, a device wallpaper, a projector fed from local storage, a shoot with no connectivity, or a USB stick going to someone else. Use the live green screen online below when you want fullscreen coverage, adjustable brightness, a hidden cursor, or a long session that keeps the display awake — and when you would rather leave nothing behind on the device.

Using a green image on a phone or tablet

Save the mobile size to a phone and you have a pocket green screen background for photographing coins, jewellery, miniatures, or anything else small enough to sit in front of a handset. Turn the device brightness up and keep the subject far enough forward that green light is not bouncing back onto it.
